We take 'A Plastic Ocean' to Praslin!

Last weekend, through the support of the GEF Small Grants Programme and in collaboration with the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Foundation (SSTF), we brought the screening of the award winning film ‘A Plastic Ocean’ to Praslin!

The documentary explores the fragile state of our oceans, uncovering alarming truths about plastic pollution and the threat it poses to human health, and critically suggests solutions that may be put into effect immediately to turn the tide. Some of the images are scarring, with unique footage documenting seabirds’ stomachs bloated with plastics, baby turtles ingesting plastic bags mistaking them for jellyfish, and children playing atop satiated landfills where they are forced to live both on the trash and off of it, forgoing school to forage for reusables so that their families can afford food.

The screening took place at the Deepam Cinema on Grand Anse Praslin and invitations were sent out to all primary schools as well as the general public by reservation, on a first come first serve basis.

The event was a huge success with the cinema filled to capacity, and judging from the live commentary of the children, especially during the most impactful portions of the film, we can with confidence say that the movie touched and educated everyone in the cinema hall.

Refreshments and snacks after the event were kindly sponsored by Constance Lemuria Resort and Spa and the Oasis Hotel.
